On Land and Sea

While on land you will get to see a multitude of wildlife. Prince of Wales Island has a large population of some of the biggest black bear on earth. You can watch these bears feed on migrating salmon in nearby streams or you may see them leisurely walking the beaches. Guests often have wonderful opportunities to photograph these bears while fishing in the rivers. Don't worry, there is so much food on the island that these bears are not aggressive toward humans, but we do not recommend hand feeding them. Thousands of eagles also reside around Craig, so keep your camera ready while sitting on the porch at the lodge or strolling through town. Photographers have recently ranked the town of Craig as the best place to photograph eagles in Alaska. Sitka blacktail deer, otters, beaver and wolves also abound here.
